Day 1 - We Meet Skipper and Crew
Sun
After an hour and a half run down to Poole, we met up at Poole Quay with Poole Sailing boss Mike Riley and our skipper Rob Gibson and crew members Tim and Paulo (and Derek). The boat looked good in the fine summer evening sun and we were both fired up and ready to go! Had a couple of pints in a pub on Poole Quay whilst getting to know our fellow crewmates. Paulo works for Airbus at Filton and is involved in the setting of design practices for carbon fibre wing design and construction. He lives at Tickenham just southwest of Bristol and sails at Chew Valley lake. Tim works in IT for Barclays bank at Poole and is very involved with teaching juniors at the Poole Yachting Club.
After completing various paperwork and a briefing on the week ahead we agreed on sleeping accommodation and got our heads down. We decided to aim to get as far as Newton Ferrers on the river Yealm just east of Plymouth but that wind conditions would dictate whether we could make it that far.
